To improve the efficiency of line corridor management and ensure the safe operation of power transmission systems, the Vietnam Electricity National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), together with Vietnam Labour Protection Joint Stock Company (VLP), held a seminar on laser obstacle removal technology in Hanoi on April 15, 2026.

Participants included leaders from EVNNPT’s Technical Safety Department, Infrastructure Investment Management Department, and Science, Technology and Digital Transformation Department, representatives of power transmission companies, regional power transmission units, and multiple technical solution providers. The seminar was also broadcast online to power transmission companies and regional transmission units.

At the seminar, experts presented an overview of laser obstacle removal technology. This modern technology has been researched, tested and applied in some developed power countries. It adopts high-power laser beams to remotely cut and trim trees and obstacles within line corridors. Workers do not need to operate at close range, which reduces operational risks and improves efficiency.

The technology presenter stated that laser obstacle removal technology has many prominent advantages: it minimizes power outages during construction, cuts labor and equipment costs, can reach dangerous work sites with complex terrain, and has a smaller environmental impact compared with traditional operation methods.

Seminar delegates also discussed the feasibility of deploying this technology in Vietnam. Vietnam’s power transmission network keeps expanding, with many lines running through mountainous areas, dense forests or densely populated regions. Some attendees suggested that prior to official application, in-depth research should be conducted on investment costs, operating conditions, technical standards and supporting legal frameworks.

EVNNPT emphasized that accessing and gradually researching cutting-edge technologies is essential for modernizing power grid operation and maintenance management. This seminar helped EVNNPT grasp the development trend of new technologies and evaluate the feasibility of their domestic deployment. Specialized departments of EVNNPT observed on-site demonstrations of laser obstacle removal technology.

In the long run, as power grids extend further, numerous transmission lines cross complex terrain, and rising power load brings heavy pressure. Technical solutions such as laser systems will become an inevitable trend for modern operation and maintenance. This seminar is more than a technical promotion event; it opens a new direction for technological exploration and supports EVNNPT’s steady transformation toward building an intelligent, safe and reliable power transmission system. The picture shows the effect of rapidly trimming tree branches with laser technology.

Moving forward, EVNNPT will continue to cooperate with relevant organizations to carry out research and tests, improve supporting technical and compliance solutions, enhance power supply reliability and safeguard the national power transmission system.

After the seminar, Vietnam Labour Protection Joint Stock Company and its partners conducted live laser obstacle removal demonstrations at EVNNPT headquarters, trimming trees and removing debris wrapped around utility poles.
